Color Tablet Box n. 1
This Montessori material is an introduction to the world of color without the association of a physical object. Take, for example, a red apple. If red is always associated with an apple, what might a child think when they see a green apple?
The materials do not pose further distractions, such as if they offered varying shapes or were mismatched in size. The only thing that is different is the color itself. Montessori call this, “isolating one difficulty” at a time. This helps a child build their visual discrimination skills while exploring how colors relate to one another.
Once the child has mastered this set there are other color boxes they can progress toward (color tablet box n.2 and color tablet n.3). In the meantime, parents can further engage their child by asking them to find things around the house that match one of the colors they’ve just learned about — they’ll be proud to show you they can speak the language of colors!
